How to Have a Successful Roommate Relationship

I learned a lot about how to live with a roommate my freshman year in college. Here what I learned:
First off, set boundaries. If you're not comfortable with them bringing over guys when you're there let them know. Also, in the first week you will find some annoying little things that start driving you crazy. It's as simple as talking your issues out. If you don't the relationship will just get worse, and worse. In my case my roommate started blow drying her hair in the room, while I was sleeping. So, after a week, she kept doing it, so I asked her if she would mind going to the bathroom to blow dry her hair. She responded saying that she had no clue it was so loud! Your roommate can't read your mind, so they probably don't know that they are bugging you as much as they are. So, just talk to them, and that's how you will maintain a good relationship.
Also, talk about switching off doing the chores. During my freshman year we had to take out the trash, which of course neither of us ever wanted to do. Make a chart, so no one feels like they are doing all the work themselves.
Most importantly respect your roommate. Roommates go either two ways, you will become best friends or just be roommates. What ever happens try to be kind to their living. You guys are sharing a sleeping/living space for a year! Respect their sleeping schedule, meaning being quiet, not having people over, and keeping a dim light. Respect their space, just because you need something and your roommate has it, doesn't make it yours, always ask before you use/take what is not yours. Respect their feelings, if they have complaints about you, try to compromise, and fix the issue.
I greatly regret from my freshman year not talking everything out, and just ignoring our issues. Please consider these tips, and comment below your own, or your thoughts.
Having a roommate is one of the greatest experiences about college! Good Luck!

Don't Go to College Without these!

Don't go to college without these essentials!
  • Command Hookscommand-hooks
Great for hanging stuff in your dorm. You can not damage your walls, and these hold very well and peel off in a simple motion. Great for hanging pictures, or hooking up jackets/towels. Always have Command Hooks on hand!
  • Laundry Hamperhamper
This was my best purchase for my freshman year. Great storage on top for your shower caddy, and great drawers for extra storage. Also, your laundry will never be seen in this hamper! Great purchase from Target!
  • Pillowspillows
Have lots of pillows for your bed. A long pillow for against the wall, a corner pillow, and two sleeping pillows. Trust me you will want to be comfortable!
  • Mugmug
Don't forget the mug, lots of hot coco parties in college!
  • White Boardw b
Have a white board outside your door. It's a great way for people to talk to you, and leave you messages.
  • Storage Bins
Have storage under your bed is crucial. There is many different types of storage for bins, that will fit your bed perfectly. Just get storage!bins
Consider these must, not, forget items!

Q: Homework in College

Q: How much homework should I expect in college?
A: To sum up the answer expect at lease two hours of homework a day.
I had five classes a semester and every class was a bit different with homework. I found that two of my classes never had homework, but the only thing in the grade book then, were tests, so the class was a bit tougher. Then, in my other three classes we had assignment that would need to be completed by the next class. And, in college your classes with be either Mon,Wed,Fri, or Tue, Thur classes. So, there is always a day in between the next class to complete it. Homework isn't tough, it just takes time. Expect that you will have a bit of homework but nothing overloading. In college, professor respect that your probably have a life after class!

Q: College Hunks

Q: After watching many college movies, are college guys mean, will they even want to interact with freshman, what should I expect?
A: College guys are just the same as you, they are just looking to make new friends. It's kind of exciting to meet the new incoming freshman for them. Occasionally, you might run into a total D*** but that goes for High school too, right?! But, overall in college everyone is on the same age level, age or year in school doesn't really matter with interacting with guys. So, expect that everyone is just looking to meet a fresh face!

Q: What is Dorm Life Life?

Q: What is it like sharing a dorm with a roommate?
A: Overall it's the best experience in college!
The positive side to having roommate, is its an instant friend. Someone you can learn about and share a living space with. The not so fun side, is that you will have someone constantly in your space. When you go to sleep, they might wake you up. When you want to have quiet time, they might bring friends over. It is a very mixed balance of good and bad. But, in the end you will always remember your college freshman roommate!
